He's back. He survived the Centre. Now Gary wants the dirt!
Against the laws of physics and engineering, our trusty 2004 Ford Focus 2.0L Zetec, 5-speed manual, (codenamed Gary) successfully survived the spring rally from Adelaide to Darwin in 2026. Like Steve Bradbury, he crossed over the finish line when maybe he shouldn’t have and immediately celebrated his survival by blowing a rear driver's wheel bearing, frying some engine sensors, and melting an ignition coil. We took that as a clear sign of affection. So we decided, we’re doing it again.
SPRING 2027 – SHITBOX RALLY – Wodonga to Mackay!
Same car, same team, same complete lack of mechanical qualifications, but fear not! We have Dr Google, YouTube and Chat GPT to solve all of our yet to happen problems.
Will Gary survive a second consecutive rally, we’re highly optimistic. Will he shed major mechanical components along the way? Most likely!
The organisers have confirmed that Spring 2027 has the highest percentage of dirt tracks in rally history (around 75% unsealed)
Place your bets now on what Gary decides to retire next:
* A) The opposite wheel bearing (purely for structural symmetry)
* B) A highly obscure, expensive part we completely overlooked
* C) The alternator, because they thrive in dust
* D) Some other sensor we’ve never heard of
Why are we doing this to ourselves? To raise money to fight cancer. Every single dollar raised goes directly to Cancer Council Australia—a vital cause that hits close to home for a lot of people and every team on the starting grid.
Your incredible generosity helped us smash out just over $8,500 for our last rally. This time around, Gary has his sights set on the big milestone: $10,000.
Throw us a few dollars if you can spare them, jump on board as a sponsor or just follow along to see which part of Gary falls off first.
Onya Gary!
KahDaw are driving a $1,500 car from Albury-Wodonga to Mackay to raise money for Cancer Council
They're doing what!?
Shitbox Rally is a 7-day challenge like no other. Participants drive cars worth no more than $1,500 through some of Australia's most stunning (and often rugged) landscapes, all in support of cancer research. It's not a race — it's a challenge and more importantly, a celebration of the power of community.
Yes, the cars break down, and yes, there are plenty of unexpected twists along the way, but that's all part of the fun.
The rally is designed to be a colourful and unpredictable experience, where teams travel in small groups, helping each other along the way.
And when the day's drive ends, we gather around the campfire, share stories, and reflect on the day's achievements.
This event brings together people who have been impacted by cancer in different ways — whether it's through their own battles or through loved ones. Together we'll make memories that last a lifetime while supporting the fight against cancer.
Donate NowEvery rally. Every dollar.
