Two siblings. One questionable car. A journey through the outback. All for Dad.

In May 2026, we lost our dad, Garry, just 13 months after his diagnosis of mantle cell lymphoma.

Dad loved cars, road trips, the great Australian outback and the freedom of the open road. He loved the night sky, the stars and everything beyond them. He was always up for an adventure, particularly if it involved getting behind the wheel and heading somewhere new.

Dad had only been retired for three months. After a lifetime of working, he was finally looking forward to having the time to do more of what he loved. He'd started planning his next big trip with his partner and friends, with plenty more adventures still ahead of him.

Trips he never got the chance to take.

So, naturally, we've decided the best way to honour him is to buy a 1982 VH Holden Commodore and drive it thousands of kilometres across Australia. What could possibly go wrong?

We're Teagan and James, a brother-and-sister duo taking on the Spring 2027 Shitbox Rally as The Shitbox Has Landed.

Our space-themed adventure is a nod to Dad's fascination with the universe, our shared love of all things unknown, and the idea that somewhere out there, amongst the stars, Dad's still along for the ride.

There's something fitting about taking an old Holden into the vast Australian outback, beneath those incredible night skies, with no guarantees other than dust, questionable mechanical reliability, plenty of laughs and a few good stories to tell.

It's s the kind of adventure Dad would have loved, he'd be so jealous.

But this adventure is about more than just us, or Dad.

We're taking part in the Shitbox Rally to raise funds for the Cancer Council, supporting vital cancer research and the hope that other families might have more time with the people they love.

Having experienced firsthand just how quickly cancer can change everything, this is a cause that means an enormous amount to us.

We can't bring Dad along for one more road trip, but we can take everything he loved with us.

The cars. The open road. The outback. The stars. The freedom.

And hopefully, somewhere out there in the universe, Dad's watching his two kids attempt to keep a 40-something-year-old Holden running across Australia, having a good laugh at our expense.

If you can donate or sponsor our adventure, we'd be incredibly grateful. Every contribution helps support cancer research and gives us another reason to keep this questionable old Holden on the road.

For Dad. For the adventure. For the families still fighting.

See you amongst the stars, Dad. πŸ‘½β€οΈ

ALBURY-WODONGA MACKAY 3,400 km in a $1,500 car THE SHITBOX HAS LANDED

The shitbox has landed are driving a $1,500 car from Albury-Wodonga to Mackay to raise money for Cancer Council

They're doing what!?

Shitbox Rally is a 7-day challenge like no other. Participants drive cars worth no more than $1,500 through some of Australia's most stunning (and often rugged) landscapes, all in support of cancer research. It's not a race — it's a challenge and more importantly, a celebration of the power of community.

Yes, the cars break down, and yes, there are plenty of unexpected twists along the way, but that's all part of the fun.

The rally is designed to be a colourful and unpredictable experience, where teams travel in small groups, helping each other along the way.

And when the day's drive ends, we gather around the campfire, share stories, and reflect on the day's achievements.

This event brings together people who have been impacted by cancer in different ways — whether it's through their own battles or through loved ones. Together we'll make memories that last a lifetime while supporting the fight against cancer.
